This year I was determined to buy all my holiday gifts from local (non-big box) shops or local crafters. It actually was a bit more challenging then I expected. In the end, there were a few things I couldn’t find locally that my children specifically asked for so I ended up buying them on Amazon. I have to say though, I’m pretty satisfied to have done about 85% of my shopping locally.

An even better way to make gifts more personalized is to make them yourself. I know this idea may sound overwhelming, but it’s actually quite fun. It’s all about knowing your strengths. I don’t consider myself to be very good at arts & crafts so I tend to stay away from those types of DIY gifts. I’m pretty good with food gifts and homemade skin care products so that’s what I stick with. I think the gift receivers really appreciate the time and thought put into a handmade gift item.

There are a lot of things you can do with a few supplies. The containers can sometimes be the biggest challenge. Mason jars are always fun and are easy to find at most grocery stores. Fancier styles mason jars can be purchased at craft stores and if you are good thrift store shopper you’ll find lots of fun containers that way.

I love projects that can be completed in an afternoon so all of these DIY gifts can be done in a couple of hours or less. Here are my top 7 easy and healthy homemade gifts:

Essential Oil Perfume Spray or Roll-on for those on your gift list who love perumes

Homemade Lavender Body Lotion (any essential oil can be used to personalize this, some ideas: orange, peppermint, ylang ylang)

Eczema Salve which can also be used for most any skin problems, not just eczema

Mason Jar Cookie Mix (Gluten-free & Vegan) because who doesn’t like cookies!?

Magnesium Lotion would be a great gift for anyone who has trouble sleeping, try rubbing this on the feet before bed

Diaper Rash Cream for a new Mom in your family

Cocoa Butter & Rosehips Body Butter is a super rich an luxorious body butter to pamper anyone on your gift list
